Installing hardware

The I‐2533CS series is the most popular solution for converting the CAN bus to fiber. This Quick Start Guide will provide the information needed to get started with the I‐2533CS Series.

Before using I-2533CS, certain things must be done.

Select the communication speed via the rotary switch, refer to the table below:

Rotary switch for CAN baud rate

Switching value

Meaning

0

Set the baud rate to 10 kbps

1

Set the baud rate to 20 kbps

2

Set the baud rate to 50 kbps

3

Set the baud rate to 80 kbps

4

Set the baud rate to 100 kbps

5

Set the baud rate to 125 kbps

6

Set the baud rate to 250 kbps

7

Set the baud rate to 500 kbps

8

Set the baud rate to 800 kbps

9

Set the baud rate to 1 Mbps

A

Set the baud rate to the user-defined baud rate that is configured by the I-2533CS utility.

B-D

N/A

E

Set I-2533CS to firmware update mode. The firmware update tool is required.

F

Set I-2533CS in configuration mode. The utility tool is required.

Check the module group ID parameter:

Identification value

Description

00

The I-2533CS can exchange data with the one with group ID 00.

01

The I-2533CS can exchange data with the one which has group ID 01 and 03.

02

The I-2533CS can exchange data with the one which has group ID 02 and 03.

03

The I-2533CS can exchange data with the one that has group ID 01, 02 and 03

Determine if termination resistor is needed or not

Generally, if your application is as follows, we recommend enabling the termination resistor.

If your application looks like the following structure, the termination resistor is not needed.

Connect the fiber port, CAN port, power line, and chassis ground of the I-2533CS.

Pin assignment:

Pin. No.

Signification

RxD

Fiber RxD port

TxD

Fiber TxD port

COM_TXD

RS-232 port TXD pin for configuration

COM_RXD

RS-232 port RXD pin for configuration

COM_GND

GND pin of RS-232 port for configuration

N/A

Not available

CAN_L

CAN_L pin of the CAN bus

CAN_H

CAN_H pin of the CAN bus

CAN_GND

CAN_GND pin of the CAN bus
